February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Dating violence is a pattern of behavior that includes physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse used by one person in an intimate relationship to exert power and control over another. Teen dating violence is generally defined as occurring among individuals between the ages of 13-19 years old.

The Beaman Home

Since 1985, Beaman Home has been providing essential services to domestic violence victims, and their children, by empowering them to live with dignity while helping to break the cycle of violence.

We do this by providing a safe haven, along with supportive services, while partnering with and educating the community.

When a victim of domestic violence chooses to leave their abuser, not only are they, and in many cases their children, walking away from their home and everything familiar, but they are also challenging the power and control their abuser has over them.  This challenge leads to an increased likelihood of fatal violence as the abuser tries to regain control.

It is truly a leap of faith to make the journey from DV victim to DV Survivor.

It takes COURAGE to leave, HOPE & STRENGTH to overcome challenges along the way, RESPECT for oneself to continue toward EMPOWERMENT, until you believe in your own DIGNITY as a SURVIVOR.

Beaman Home provides a continuum of services to support victims through the initial crisis and along their journey to achieve abuse-free, self sufficient lives.  Our programs and services are comprehensive and collaborative.  They include:

  • 24-Hour Crisis Hotline: Toll Free  877-725-9363 or Local 574-267-7701

  • Emergency Shelter
  • Outreach Services
    • Victims who are currently with their abuser
    • Survivors who are rebuilding life after abuse
  • Emergency and essential transportation
  • Case management and ancillary services
  • Support, referral, and advocacy for victims of family violence

Recognizing the complex needs of victims, and their children, Beaman Home has established a network of community partners to draw upon our local community’s resources to help the family heal and move forward after abuse.
